King Henry VIII of England published Assertio Septem Sacrementorum, reasserting the keeping of seven sacraments in opposition to Martin Luther’s stated belief that there are only two true sacraments. Pope Leo X awarded Henry VIII the title of Defender of the Faith in 1521. This is Luther’s answer to Henry VIII’s book. He reasserts his opinions about the sacraments while also suggesting that Henry VIII did not write his own book.
