Lucas Lossius, schoolmaster in Lüneburg, and student and intimate of Luther and Melanchthon, wrote this devotional piece for his patroness, Dorothea Semmelbecher of Lüneburg, to offer her comfort at the loss of her son, and other unnamed sorrows in her life. In view of this fact, it is particularly touching that the printer has placed a wood-engraving of the New Testament narrative of the raising of the son of the widow at Nain beneath the title, and that Lossius names the mourning woman who begins the dialogue, "Dorothea."

Dedicated to Dorothea Semmelbecher of Lüneburg.

Colophon: Getruckt zu Franckfurt am Mein/ bei Christian Egenolffs Erben/ Im Iar M.D. LVI.

Signatures: a-av, A-Giii

Includes five unnumbered wood-engravings within the text, and one wood-engraving on t.p., illustrating the raising of the son of the widow of Nain (Luke VII, 11-18).

Last p. blank.
